While California, and especially Placer County, is known for the Gold Rush era of the 19th century, you might be wondering what happened to all that gold that was discovered. Well, the fact of the matter is that most of the hard-earned loot from the Gold Rush left California one way or another. Thankfully, the gold that Placer County has held onto is on display in the Placer County Museum. The Museum also includes an overview of Placer County history from the early Nisenan inhabitants through the latter half of the 20th century, the renowned Pate Collection of American Indian artifacts and the original Thomas Kinkade painting “Auburn Centennial”. The Museum occupies the first floor of Auburn’s historic Courthouse. An easy 30 minute drive from our Sun City Roseville and Lincoln Hills 55+ active adult communities, admission is free, and the museum is open 7 days a week, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm (closed holidays).
